BIG BASS AWARDS -SOUTHERN AFRICA

Rules

  1. All anglers who land Largemouth and Smallmouth Black Bass in the waters of southern Africa are eligible

  2. There are no requirements for sanctioned club membership. There is NO application fee.

  3. Fish must be taken by rod, reel and artificial lure in accordance with regulations of the country or province where the fish was caught.

  4. All bass must be safely released for award recognition.

  5. The official entry form must be emailed to: bigbass@alloutdoorsafrica.com or forwarded via the online entry form on the ALLOUTDOORSAFRICA.com website within 60 days of catch. All applicable sections, including a witness (if required) must be completed. Incomplete and illegible entries will be disqualified.

  6. Each entry must be accompanied by at least one side view photograph (preferably three photos) of the fish and the angler. Bass over 4kg must be cradled with two hands. Photographs must be taken at the catch site (no exceptions). Driveway or bait shop shots are not acceptable. Photos of fish hanging from a scale hook will not be accepted. Fish showing signs of improper handling will be disqualified. Entries without photos will be disqualified.

  7. Big Bass awards for anglers over 18 years of age will be categorized by weights of 2-2.9kg, 3-3.9kg, 4-4.9kg, 5-5.9kg and any bass over 6kg. Junior Angler Awards are made for boys and girls of 18 years and younger in the same weight classes. Approved anglers become members of the Junior Angler Club, 2kg Club, 3kg Club, 4kg Club, 5kg Club and the 6kg Mkhulu Mamba Club. 

  8. Applicants for the Junior Angler Award, 2kg and 3kg class need only provide a photograph and a weight from an operable hand scale and make the proper designations on the entry form.

  9. Applicants for the 4kg class must provide a photograph (preferably three), a weight from an operable hand scale and provide witness information. A name, phone number, email and/or physical address of the witness is required.

  10. All bass over 5kg must be weighed on an operable hand scale, measured, from the tip of the nose (with mouth closed) to the tip of the tail. A witness is required and hand scale accuracy must be verified against a verified scale (butchery or grocery scale) or officially certified. A minimum of three photographs are required, two of which must be of the fish and the angler.

  11. Bass over 6kg must be weighed on an operable hand scale, measured, from the tip of the nose (with mouth closed) to the tip of the tail. A witness is required and hand scale accuracy must be verified against a verified scale (butchery or grocery scale) or officially certified. A minimum of three photographs are required, two of which must be of the fish and the angler and one against a comparative object to assist in length verification.

  12. Most hand scales are not verified or certified, therefore the applicant will have 30 days from the weigh date to have the scale verified or certified and a corresponding letter submitted with the entry.

  13. Entry data and photographs become the publishing property of ALL OUTDOORS AFRICA and/or ANNECAT PRINT AND PUBLISHERS, CC who are not responsible for lost entries. 

  14. Each entry is reviewed by the ALL OUTDOORS AFRICA and ANNECAT PRINT AND PUBLISHERS awards committee whose decisions are final. No correspondence thereto will be entertained.

  15. Anglers may receive only one class recognition per calendar year, but may upgrade to a higher class in the same year. For example, an angler can receive only one award in the 3kg Club, but may earn another if he/she enters the 4kg Club.

  16. Each entry must be emailed/sent by the angler who caught the fish and not by a guide service or fishing lodge.

  17. Angler awards are managed and archived by ALL OUTDOORS AFRICA and presented by ANNECAT PRINT AND PUBLISHERS CC and VENOM LURES AFRICA PTY (LTD).

  18. Anglers will be awarded a certificate, signed by the Editor and/or Publisher of THE BASS ANGLER magazine and a representative of VENOM LURES AFRICA. Anglers will also receive a decal designated Junior Angler Club, 2kg Club, 3kg Club, 4 kg Club, 5kg Club or 6kg Mkhulu Mamba Club.

  19. Certificates and decals will be sent via SA Postal Service and may take up to six weeks for delivery. Should the recipient wish to make use of a courier service, he/she will be liable for the cost.
